MONEY MANAGEMENT Money Management is undoubtedly the most important prerequisite to a successful season.
Even the most skilled handicapper will eventually lose if not following a sound money management system. The key to success is discipline.
The basic idea is to determine your average bet amount per game, or unit bet, and consistently wager that amount on
every pick Jon releases. This is what a handicapper means when they say they are up or down a certain number of units.
The unit amount is determined at the beginning of the season, and Jon suggests using 2% of your bankroll as your unit bet.*
This would mean that if you have a total of $5000 in your sports book accounts at the beginning of the season, your unit bet would be $100. It is very
important to stay disciplined and not stray from your unit bet. This helps protect your profits and
allows you to stay in the game for the duration. UNIT = bankroll * .02

REDUCED JUICE
Reduced juice relates to the commission a sports book charges for each wager placed. Until recently sports books charged a standard 10% juice;
you wagered $1100 to win $1000. This is still the case with most books. Assuming the sports book spreads are truly fair, the book has a 4.55% edge over you
when charging 10% commission. Fortunately for us, some books now offer juice as low as 5%. This lowers the books edge to 2.38%. These numbers
are based on random picks and are obviously theoretical, but they undeniably show value in finding a sports book that offers reduced juice. Just last season,
Jon saved over three units from receiving a 5% reduced commission.
SHOPPING THE LINE
Shopping the line refers to using more than one sports book. Using a few good books instead of one can help maximize your winnings,
especially if those books offer reduced juice (see above). Spreads for football games change, and not all sports books offer the same spread for
the same particular game. For example, one book is offering Miami +7 and another book is offering Miami +7.5. Having the option to shop for a
better spread can add to your profits at the end of the season, and thats what our goal is. Statistics show that on average, one out of every 20-25 games lands
on the spread or ends in a tie after the spread is considered. This shows true value in shopping the line. Jon saved over two units last season
by using a few books and shopping for the best spread available.
